Good Deed Punch Cards
Thanks to Pinterest, I got the idea for these handy punch cards that promote cooperation, instead of the dreaded "That's not my Job" mentality. For each good deed a child does (like folding 10 things from the clean laundry or clearing the table after dinner), s/he earns a punch. Once the card has been punched 22 times, the child earns a reward (such as a blizzard at DQ, an item from Target's $1 spot, or a craft item from Hobby Lobby).
It's completely up to you what counts as a good deed and what rewards can be earned. As soon as they've finished one good deed, I give their card a punch. All you have to do is download the file, print, and begin to see your kids helping willingly around the house.

Free Valentine Printable: Owl
This is a fun Valentine craft to do with children and will look similar to the one pictured below. All you need is a paper (preferably colored), printer, scissors, glue, and pencils for the owl to roost on (optional).
1. Print and cut a body and fold it on the dotted line to create an owl shape. (4 per printed page)
2. Print and cut an owl face and glue it to the folded flap. (16 per printed page)
3. Print the hearts with Valentine's sayings to glue on the backside of the owl. (12 per printed page )
4. Fold up the bottom of the owl and cut two slits about 1.5" apart to create an opening to slide a pencil through.
Notice that if you fold the bottom of the owl to cut the slits, it creates a much nicer looking pocket for the pencil (the purple owl's doesn't look so great). |

Candy Cane Poem Bookmarks: "The Symbolism of the Candy Cane" by Alana Lee
It's easy to make festive bookmarks or gift tags with this candy cane poem using the FREE downloads below. They are great for punching a hole, tying some ribbon, and attaching to a candy cane. Please Note: Don't trim the top and bottom edges so that you can punch a hole and tie it at the top (only trim edges on right and left). Just click here for 5 per page or here for 8 per page to download the file and print. (I originally posted jpegs, but they weren't good enough quality for printing.)
The Symbolism of the Candy Cane
by Alana Lee
Turned upside down, the cane makes a “J”
for Jesus who was born on Christmas Day.
Turn it upright like the Good Shepherd’s staff;
He pleads to the Father on your behalf.
At the top you’ll see the saving crook,
Used on the lost sheep He never forsook.
The stripes whisper softly, “By his stripes we are healed.”
And the red represents His blood that was spilled.
The white gives us hope to become pure as He,
by forsaking our sins, white as snow they will be.
The peppermint oil that flavors this treat,
is known for its strong healing properties.
Now each time you see the striped candy cane,
Remember, dear child, He knows your name.
Inspired by the "J Is for Jesus" poem and "The Legend of the Candy Cane." © 2007-2014 Alana Lee. I don't mind if you share this poem for non-commercial uses, but please be honest and give credit.
